Instructor of the Month: Carolyne Anthony

Where do you teach?
I teach in my studio in Ann Arbor but run teacher trainings all over the world
My teaching tips
Allow your client to move! Don’t nit pick until they have the exercise in their body. Otherwise it gets frustrating for them.
Favourite Exercise and reason why
OOhh… I have so many! It really depends on what kind of mood I’m in. I LOVE the roll over if I’ve been sitting for too long. It really stretches out my back But for an all purpose favourite I have to say bridging. You can do so much with this one simple exercise.
In a nutshell, tell us a little bit about yourself and your experience in the industry
My story with Pilates begins in London in 1982 at Alan Herdman’s studio. I was sent by my Jazz Instructor because I had no “core”. I had no idea what he was talking about! Since then I have trained with Rael Isacowitz, Lolita San Miguel and I’m certified by Polestar, Basipilates, PhysicalMind and I am on the faculty with Balanced Body University and BasipIlates. My pre/post natal program is now a part of BasiPilates Advanced Education Course. I run The Center for Women’s Fitness, an international organization for pre/post natal and women’s health Pilates programs.
Do you have a motto or mission statement?
My motto is that everything in life, including Pilates should be simple. We make far too much fuss about everything.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years from now?
Hopefully still alive! And hopefully still getting people to think outside the box.
